Thank you for visiting our family furniture shop! Our journey began in the aftermath of the 2008 U.S. Housing Crisis. During those recession years, the Peruvian restaurant we left our home country of Peru for faced closure, putting my family at risk of having to move back. Amidst this, I found solace and inspiration in my long-time passion for woodworking, a skill passed down by my Chinese grandfather who was also an immigrant, but in his time in Peru. The adversities of this time paved way for the resurgence of my hobby, and it wasn't just about crafting rustic artisanal pieces -- it was a lifeline during a tumultuous time.
A turning point came when my wife challenged me to recreate a round dining table she'd seen at a big-box furniture store, which was a catalyst for a new chapter in our lives. In the face of adversity, our family rallied together and, in 2016, we took a bold leap to double down on my love for woodworking to open Geppetto's Garage in the sunny San Francisco Bay Area. The closure of the restaurant, once seen as a setback, was now an opportunity to start over in this country. With the help of my wife, kids, and chisel, we began growing our little family furniture business and created some of our best family memories during this time.

Passion & Craftsmanship Always
This journey began with a simple challenge and rekindled passion. When Jorge's wife dared him to recreate a round dining table she saw in a big-box furniture retailer, little did they know it would be the catalyst for a new chapter in their lives. With their Peruvian restaurant recently closed due to the 2008 U.S. recession, Jorge found himself with the opportunity to revisit his teenage fascination with woodworking, passed down by his Chinese grandfather in Peru. Days after the challenge, the round table stood in their dining table and the astonished reaction from his wife was all the validation they needed to post it on Craigslist where it was sold the next day, lighting the bulb for the idea for Geppetto's Garage.
